You are film producers at a failing film production company. You have one last chance to make a hit movie; otherwise, the company will go under and you'll never work in this city again. You must use the resources at your disposal to produce this film on time and under budget, ensuring it's of sufficient quality and that the resulting story makes sense. There's no time to lose: roll, camera, action!
Camera Roll! is a cooperative or solo worker placement game with dice, resource management, and a central geometric puzzle representing your film set layout. You roll custom D6 Crew dice—each face representing a different production department (camera, lighting, sound, actor, production design, visual effects)—and assign them to actions, either on the main board or your individual player boards. Your player board features a specific department head (director, producer, cinematographer, editor, production designer, or the star) and contains unique action spaces that you can use on your turn.
You place the crew in specific positions that match those on the shooting charts, resolve the constant problems that get in your way, and hold production meetings to play idea cards from your hand to help. All of this costs time and money, and you lose if either runs out. You also need to ensure your film reaches a certain level of quality to win.
At the end of the game, you'll have a unique sequence of completed shooting cards that you can "premiere" using the story clues: it's the movie production game that leads to a "real" movie!
